New Delhi: The winter is slowly creeping onto the Capital and the Met Department is saying that fog will hit Delhi between December 5 and February 15.
In that time, there will be upto 150 hours of zero visibility which means no flying.
The Civil Aviation Ministry says airlines which don't meet the Category 3B landing system requirement will lose their winter flying slots. Cat 3B is the system that helps aircraft land even when the visibility is as low as 50 metres.
Indian, Kingfisher and Jet are the three operators who are CAT 3 compliant.
Among them Indian has the largest number of Cat 3 trained pilots and Cat 3 complaint aircraft.
Meanwhile, news agency PTI quoted the Government as saying that it would adopt tough measures to penalise airlines who failed to stick to their flight schedules during the winter months.
The decision was taken at a meeting attended by senior officials of Civil Aviation Ministry, including those from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the Airports Authority of India, and representatives of various airlines and DIAL, developer of Delhi airport.
