New Delhi: It's justice at last for Geeta Jethani, the mother of seven-year-old girl Jyotsna Jethani, who saw her daughter being sucked into an escalator at the Delhi International Airport nine years ago.
The Supreme Court has upheld the order of the National Consumer Commission which had previously awarded Rs 38 lakh as compensation to the family.
Jyotsana had died in an escalator accident in December 1999. No airport staffer was at hand to help the distraught family as they watched their daughter dying.
In August 2004, the Consumer Commission had ordered the Airport Authority of India to pay the compensation to the family.
The AAI had however refused to pay up and appealed in the apex court.
