New Delhi: Security at all the major airports in the country has been stepped up following information of a possible terror strike.

The Central Industrial Security Force or the CISF and the local police have been warned about possibility of serial blasts, plane hijacks or attacks on major airports.

The airport security has got tighter following tip off that there could be terror attacks. Civil aviation officials have confirmed this.

“The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, which is under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, has received information from the IB that some J&K militant group was likely to hijack an aircraft. In view of that, about four days back they have put all the airports across the country in high alert,” said PRO of Civil Aviation Mausami Chakraborty.

Airports have been on high alert for the past four days following reports that terrorists could take airport staff hostage and carrying liquids on planes have been banned again.

This is the second time in the last two months that such an alert has been issued. The last one was after a note was found in Tamil Nadu.

Sources have said this alert comes after the confessions of Bilal, a top Lashkar operative caught in Bangalore.

Bilal was found in possession with some sensitive maps, satellite phone and huge quantities of arms and ammunition.

Bilal is known to be close to Abu Alkama the operational chief of Lashker. He has revealed that all major airports are on LeT's target.

After repeated intelligence failure last year, security agencies are not taking any chances this time. They are taking the confessional statement of Bilal so seriously that an alert has been sounded across the country.
