Ajit Singh's RLD joins NDA for Lok Sabha poll

New Delhi: Ajit Singh-led Rashtriya Lok Dal joined the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for the Lok Sabha elections on Monday.

The tie-up was announced by Ajit Singh at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in New Delhi on Monday in the presence of prime ministerial candidate LK Advani, BJP President Rajnath Singh and NDA Convener Sharad Yadav.

Following the tie-up, Advani said the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government has not done much good for the country in the last five years.

"The country has suffered in the five years of UPA rule. Ajit Singh's support to NDA will be beneficial in the coming elections," said Advani.

Rajnath Singh said that the BJP-RLD combine will do well in Uttar Pradesh.

Sharad Yadav, who is also the President of Janata Dal (United), thanked Ajit Singh for deciding to join the NDA.

"I welcome Ajit Singh into NDA. His joining hands with NDA will benefit us," said Sharad Yadav.

The tie-up was expected as the RLD had voted against the UPA Government in the July 22, 2008, trust vote.

Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley, who was also present on the occasion, said the party will release its list of candidates very soon.

"We have settled the seat issues. We will be announcing the candidates in a couple of days," said Jaitely.
