New Delhi: Put all rumours to rest. Thala Ajith will not be playing a Sri Lankan refuee in his forthcoming flick 'Billa II', say sources in the know, clarifying that the 'Mankatha'-star will be reprising the role of a Tamilian only born in Sri Lanka in the movie, and not a Lankan Tamil.
Even before the shooting of 'Billa II' began, the film’s outline was revealed – 'Billa II' will be a prequel to 'Billa' and will unravel the life of David (Ajith), a commoner who goes to become one of the most dreaded dons in the world. However, what's latest is that Ajith's role, which was kept secret all this while has now been revealed.
Thala will play the role of a Tamilian only born in Sri Lanka, and not a Lankan refugee as claimed by certain sections of the media. The prequel's director Chakri Toleti was not available for confirmation though.
'Mankatha' has five strangers planning a heist. Ajith, a cop, gets a whiff of their plans and the rest, as they say, is 'Mankatha'. It is Ajith's 50th film.
Cloud Nine Movies has said that 'Mankatha' will be released simultaneously in Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Gulf, UK, USA, Europe, Canada and Australia.
The film is a chase after five strangers who plan a heist. Arjun, who plays a cop, gets a whiff of their plans and the chase begins.

The film is produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri's Cloud Nine Movies and Vivek Rathinavelu.
The film is written and directed by Venkat Prabhu.

Reports said 'Mankatha' revolves around a gang of gamblers during the Indian Premier League cricket season.
The film is a multi-starrer with Tamil industry's stalwarts playing prominent roles.
Venkat Prabhu said Ajith showed his eagerness in starring in this film only if he had a character like the Dark Knight or Batman, a character with shades of grey.
The film's title was initially 'Mangaatha', derived from a popular traditional card game.
The makers of the film changed the spelling of the film's name due to numerological reasons.
There were initial reports that the film was a remake of the 2008 Hindi film 'Jannat'. But the producers said the film's script was original.
