Akhilesh invites Left leaders for swearing-in

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh chief minister-designate and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav is expected to meet senior Left Front leaders in New Delhi on Tuesday, adding to speculation of the formation of a Third Front.

Akhilesh is scheduled to go to the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI(M)) office to invite party General Secretary Prakash Karat for his swearing-in ceremony in Lucknow on March 15. Akhilesh will also meet Communist Party of India (CPI) leader AB Bardhan on Tuesday.

CPI(M) Politburo member Sitaram Yechury and CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta have already been invited by the Samajwadi Party for the searing-in ceremony. Akhilesh had met Dasgupta at Ajoy Bhawan in New Delhi and invited him to attend the ceremony.

The meeting between Akhilesh and Left leaders has added to speculation of the formation of a Third Front.

Yechury will decide on attending the ceremony after consulting party leadership as Parliament is currently in session.

On Monday, Akhilesh had called the Third Front a good step for the country.
