Mumbai: Akshay Kumar is the latest Bollywood star on the animation circuit as he lends his voice to Jumbo, which hits theatres this Christmas.
Releasing with 500 prints and being pushed in the general entertainment category, Jumbo is Akshay's first stint with animation. And Akki is leaving no stone unturned for this drama to unfold into box office success.
"It's a very simple story. I am playing the blue elephant and I fall in love with the pink elephant," says he.
MD Percept Pictures Company, Shailendra Singh says, "It's the aura. The brand Akshay Kumar works. When he gives an emotional scene, you feel like believing it. His magical touch is working well for the film and he's gone out of his way to promote it."
The makers are planning to pitt it against Amir Khan's Ghajini, and have roped in mega-star Akshay Kumar for a whopping sum rumored to be Rs 9 crore, but is it a wise move especially after seeing Saif and Kareena's Roadside Romeo biting the dust?
Shailendra Singh says, "I think it was practical enough. His partnership is crucial to us and none of us are feeling shortchanged by it."
Everyone knows Akshay can manage to pull the crowd to the theatres, but can his voice do the same? Jumbo's opening should answer that.
