Aligarh: A six-year-old girl was found dead in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, leading to clashes between protesters and the police. The protesters pelted stones at the police and the latter resorted to lathicharge to control the crowd.
However, the visuals of the protest clearly showed the police brutally beating up women protesters and dragging them away from the protest site.
What was even more shocking was that the police justified the lathicharge on women protesters.
The shocking visuals of the lathicharge showed policemen in riot gear attacking women protesters with lathis and dragging them away from the protest site.
DIG Prakash D said, "The dead body of a six-year-old girl was recovered. We went there for investigation and postmortem of the body. The locals were agitating there. They tried to attack the police team without any provocation. We had to use little force against them."
The officer, however, added, "There is an allegation that there was some attack against women by police. We are looking into it. If this is proved there will be action against the police officers responsible."
Sources said that the police officer who can been seen manhandling the woman in the visual has been identified as AK Singh. He is a circle officer. He is the one seen pushing the old woman in the picture.
The girl had gone missing on Wednesday night. The family of the girl went to the police station to lodge a complaint but the police refused to do so.
The probe report is expected to be submitted in three days. The police has also filed an FIR against unknown people.
The post-mortem report of the victim is awaited.
