All else fails, Lalu plays 'friendship' card

After his sensational drubbing in General Elections 2009 and his strained relationship with Congress, it’s unlikely that RJD chief and former railway minister Lalu Prasad will get a ministry in the new Government.

However, Lalu is not giving up. Speaking exclusively to CNN-IBN Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai, Lalu says his relationship with the Gandhi family is a permanent one.

He also downplays his pre-election tie up with SP’s Mulayam Singh and LJP’s Ram Vilas Paswan as an arrangement.

Excerpts from the interview:

CNN-IBN: Your message for Sonia Gandhi?

Lalu Prasad: I have permanent relationship with Sonia Gandhi's family. No one can change that. I won't say a word against Sonia and Manmohan.

CNN-IBN: Many people have praised you as a rail minister. Now you may not even be part of the Cabinet.

Lalu Prasad: I won't feel bad, it's their wish. I've offered them unconditional support and yes, we didn’t get seats. In Delhi, the one who gets the power is held in esteem and I haven't got them MPs. I don’t want to comment on whether or not I will be a minister. It's not my ambition to become a minister.

CNN-IBN: What about the Fourth Front?

Lalu Prasad: There wasn't any Fourth Front, it was just an understanding with the Samajwadi Party, like "I didn't spoil it for you in UP, you don't do it here in Bihar".

CNN-IBN: So, elections over, Front over?

Lalu Prasad: It was not Front, just an understanding.
