New Delhi: This is what M K Subba had to say to CNN-IBN: "Whatever you have shown is wrong. I will file a defamation case against your channel in the Supreme Court."
He may have gone in denial mode, but inside Parliament, he seems to be in a minority.
A day after CNN-IBN exposed the web of lies that he had created for three decades about his nationality, politicians from across party lines spared no words in their criticism.
The Opposition wants him out of Parliament and there's an embarassed silence at the Congress headquarters.
"If he is not a citizen of India, his membership should go," BJP Spokesperson V K Malhotra said.
Trinamool Congress' Dinesh Tridevi added, "It's a very serious issue for the country. If a foreign national becomes an integral part of the Parliamentary business, then it's a great threat to our national security."
In far away Assam, the Subba issue rocked the state Assembly as well. Ironically it's the same Assembly of which M K Subba has been a two time member.
MP, Asom Gana Parishad, Sarbananda Sonowal said, "The government of Assam cannot avoid this issue. There must be an enquiry."
There has been a cloud over M K Subba's nationality for some time now. The evidence provided by the CNN-IBN Special Investigation Team could force the Centre's hand to take a stronger view when it submits its report to the Supreme Court next week.
