Thiruvananthapuram: An all-party meet will be held on March 15 to restore peace in the trouble-torn Kannur district, which witnessed seven political killings last week.

Briefing media after a cabinet meeting on Wedneday, Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said he would participate in the meeting in which all political parties, including the BJP, had confirmed participation.

The meeting would be held at the Kannur Collectorate. Earlier, the Chief Minister held discussions with the BJP and the RSS leaders to pave way for a peace meet.

After the meeting, Mr Achuthanandan expressed the hope that political leaders would restrain from making provocative speeches on the issue.

Confirming their participation in the all-party meet, BJP state unit President P K Krishnadas and RSS leaders said they wanted an assurance on organisational freedom and compensation to the next of kin of the victims of the violence.
