All that's happening in guzzlers' food guide

Mumbai: Summer's come in earlier than usual this year. And Mumbaikars have to endure double trouble, heat and humidity, forcing them to turn to all things fresh, fizzy and frozen but with the proverbial twist.

"It's awful. If it's this bad in this month, don't know how bad it'll get in May and June. Where the mind is fuzzy, but the head is in high spirits," says a Mumbaikar. "I prefer my drink not to be too overbearing."

As if in answer to that, lemon grass has jumped off spicey Thai platters and blending with lemon juice, ice and soda, transformed itself into a cooler that delivers. Bit too light for your taste? Try the berry blast. Crushed blueberry, syrupy squirts of wild berry strawberry and cherry whipped together with ice and priced at a hundred and forty rupees. "It's refreshing and not very sweet which is nice," says a cocktail lover.

If a sip on the wild side is what you fancy, vodkas and martinis come with an Indian twist this season. This one has dry martini mixed with gin and fresh tulsi leaves. And it's best had shaken, not stirred.

There's even paan-vodka! Paan, gulkand, crushed ice mixed with vodka, fresh cream and ice-cream. Then there's jaljeera jamming it up with rum. It's wild but it works for me.

Like it frozen? The gelato company will soon be launching sorbets and smoothies with local flavours like kokam and sugarcane.
