Imagine a job where you had to change your body clock, your lifestyle, your name and almost everything including your identity. Imagine working for a call center.
“It affects your identity, your schedule and your normal routine. I’m Anna and not Anjana for that time period at work. You live the life of Anna, experiencing and seeing things that are difficult, that probably an Anjana won’t do but being Anna you discount that,” says a call centre employee, Anjanna Vasishtha.
A different identity and erratic sleep patterns are the cause of a lot of stress in people working for call centres and all of this put together may even change one’s perception of their relationships with the outside world.
“Their relationships with the other human beings are absolutely need-based. They actually become non interactive with any other group of people. It happens with other professions as well but here it is very stark. That's the first thing that causes stress for them,” says a counselor, G Sunder.
There will be stress and there will be pressure but if you are working in a call center here is what you can do to plan your life better:
** If you choose to work at night, try not fluctuating your shifts the whole week.
** Get connected to the real world and take time out to talk to friends outside your workplace.
** Try out a de-stressing activity that brings you back to social reality.
** Have a favourite sport to keep you stress-free and add a little zing to your hectic life.
