Mangalore: Mangalore police claim to have cracked one of the worst cases of serial killings ever, in Karnataka.

Police have arrested a man accused of murdering 18 women he married. But 45-year-old Mohan Kumar shows no signs of remorse.

Mohan has confessed that he used to lure women with promises of marriage and then feed them cyanide pills.

The DIG of Western Range, Mangalore, Gopal Hosur said, "The Dakshina Kannada police have arrested the man who has committed 18 murders. He confessed to killing the young women and we have verified his confessions. Dead bodies of the victims have been found in different places like Mysore, Bangalore and Mercara."

Mohan Kumar used to work as a Physical Instructor and already has two wives. He claims to have committed the murders in a span of five years.

  • His targets were always unmarried women whom he would befriend and persuade to elope.
  • He would take them to towns like Mysore and Hassan, and spend the night with them.
  • The next day, he would ask them to hand over their jewellery for safe keeping.
  • He would then take them to a nearby bus stand and ask them to take cyanide pills disguised a contraceptives.

Gopal Hosur said, "The unsuspecting victim would consume the tablet and within minutes drop dead. The man would then soon move away from there, take the gold from the lodge and disappear. This is also a warning to young gullible women against going with such men without consent from parents or friends' knowledge."

In most cases, the local police initially wrote off the deaths as suicide. But it was when the Bantwal police probed his links to a girl who went missing in since June that Mohan's deadly actions finally came to light.
