New Delhi: An alleged suicide bomber was shot dead in Islamabad on Sunday.
Police say the man was killed when he was about to detonate himself near a police checkpost.
The bomber was accompanied by two other suspects who managed to flee.
A bomb disposal squad defused the suicide jacket that the bomber was wearing.
The incident took place amid high security alert in the capital.
Earlier on, a suicide bomber killed an anti-Taliban mayor and 11 others on the outskirts in Peshawar. Further investigations are underway.
