New Delhi: Alliance trouble is at its peak. Both the Congress and the BJP are caught in hard bargaining with their respective allies in their attempts to build a winning alliance.
The Congress-SP alliance was supposed to be the trump card of the UPA. Instead it is now resembling a war zone with SP’s Amar Singh and Congress’ Digvijay Singh playing the warriors instead of mediators.
Having already announced 65 candidates in UP, SP doesn’t want to leave more than 17 seats for the Congress. But the Congress has already announced 24 seats.
"We will not fight in Amethi and Raiberelly,” Amar Singh said.
While Digvijay Singh said, “All is not over yet, we are still talking."
In Maharasthra, too, the going has been anything but easy for the Congress. To build pressure on the Congress, NCP chief Sharad Pawar held another round of talks with Amar Singh.
On the other side of the political divide, the BJP is facing an uphill task as well.
In Bihar, its trusted ally JDU wants to fight on 26 out of the 40 seats. In Orissa, a state that is going to see simultaneous Assembly and Lok Sabha polls, the BJD is unwilling to play the junior partner.
“We have spoken to Arun Jaitley ji and it has been about 20-22 days. So we believe that they agree with us. In another day or two we will announce our main candidates also,” JDU MP Lallan Singh said.
With just a month to go before the polls kick in, the regional parties are sure to give some more hard times to the national parties.
