Sao Paulo: Renault's Spanish driver Fernando Alonso set the fastest time in the first practise ahead of Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix.
However, it was Rubens Barrichello who was the quickest of the Championship contenders, finishing third in the practise run while Brawn team-mate and championship leader Jenson Button came in fifth and the third title contender, Red Bull's Sebastien Vettel was 7th fastest.
The penaltimate race of the season is a crucial one because Jenson Button can win his first Championship title right here, with a race to spare, if he manages even a third place finish.
Jenson Button said, "We're all excited about the next two races. It means a lot to us for sure, we're all fighting for a championship. It's the first time I've been fighting for a championship in F1, same for Sebastien (Vettel), maybe the same for Rubens (Barrichello), so it's an exciting situation to be in, but obviously I'm he one that's got the lead."
