Mumbai: All the colorful historical and mythological characters from the popular Amar Chitra Katha series will now come alive on your small screen. ACK Media has tied up with Turner International India to bring out 26 episodes and two films from the Amar Chitra Katha archives.
With the popularity of films like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Narnia, this seems like a logical step for one of India's most popular comic series.
CEO ACK Media, Samir Patil says, "I think it's not possible to connect with today's children unless you are on television. When we grew up, it was a very different era and it was a very different world. But today, there is nothing more larger than life than films. So, I think if you look at those two things, the fact that broadcast is the most important media today for kids, it's a must do."
Vice-President Turner TV, Monica Tata adds, "Every time we have aired on Indian animation on television - whether it is a form of series or a movie - it has done extremly well. On television, Indian animation movies and animation series have always worked and that's a conviction we believe in."
Production work is currently underway to animate the popular titles in the series including Shivaji Maharaja, Hanuman and The Mahabharata. The animation, however, will not have any Bollywood stars voicing the characters to boost their popularity.
Samir Patil says, "Dubbing has started, but we are not going with the celebrities voice for the Amar Chitra Katha series. We are going by the characters and the kind of voice which is needed for them because you really need to get the language right."
So if you want to refresh your memories of The Panchatantra or want your child to get hooked to the world of Amar Chitra Katha, just switch on the television.
