New Delhi:The media advisor of former chief minister Amarinder Singh has been arrested in connection with the Ludhiana land scam.

Bhartinder Singh Chahal, a close aide of the former CM was arrested on June 10 in Ludhiana, making the case appear like that of political vendetta.

The Vigilance Bureau Office summoned Chahal for his integral role in the Ludhiana City Centre Case.

After leaving the Department office, Chahal and four of his relatives were arrested.

Police explained that Chahal had been accused of attempt to murder, extortion and land grabbing.

A resident of Daad village, Harchand Singh, said that Chahal had roughed him up on June 3 with the help of his supporters.

“Singh told us that Chahal kept asking for his land. When Singh refused to give it to him, 40-50 Chahal supporters surrounded and threatened him,” Harish Kumar, SP, said.

Chahal's lawyers say the police have violated a court order by arresting him.

The Punjab High Court had said that Chahal was to be given a notice of four days before he was arrested in any case.

Chahal has been questioned earlier in the Ludhiana city centre scam, in which Singh is being investigated for allegedly receiving kickbacks for the award of a construction contract.
