Baltal: The yatra to Amarnath has begun, as always amidst tight security but it's seen as one of the most peaceful and orderly Amarnath yatra in recent years.
An estimated four to five lakh pilgrims are expected to make the journey towards the famous cave. Faith is moving all alike, the young, old and infirm hoping to seek blessings of Lord Shiva by trekking to the holy cave.
This is perhaps for the first time in last two decades that the pilgrims are feeling more secure and relaxed because unlike the last years of unrest, Kashmir is calm and peaceful. The other good news is that the authorities have taken measures to prolong the life of the lingam.
Vikas Suri and his wife Sunita have been doing the yatra for the last 10 years, they too feel that this year it is better organised and less stressful.
Pilgrim Sunita says that the security arrangement this year is different. Another pilgrim Vikas says that there is a lot of change now than before.
Devotees are also happy about the fact that this year the ice lingam is 14 feet tall and authorities have allowed choppers upto Panchtarni, six kilometers short of the cave.
Governor NN Vohra, also chairman, Shrine Board says, ''We have made good arrangements including installing commnication towers.''
A four-tier security cover ensures the yatra goes off peacefully. An estimated 4-5 lakh will perform the darshan at the cave shrine this year.
