Jammu: The Amarnath yatra resumed on Friday after remaining suspended from here for two days due to heavy rains along the yatra route in south Kashmir Himalayas.

With the weather conditions improving, a fresh batch of 1982 pilgrims left for the cave shrine from the base camp of Bhagwati Nagar here around 0400 hours, officials said.

The pilgrims are expected to reach Baltal and Nunwan camps in Pahalgam by the evening, they said, adding that pilgrims have also been allowed to proceed from these camps to the shrine.

The yatra was suspended for the last two days due to heavy rains in Kashmir Valley, which had caused slippery conditions on the tracks from Pahalgam and Baltal camps to the shrine.

Over 3.70 lakh pilgrims have so far offered prayers at the shrine since the yatra started on June 30.
