New Delhi: Nobel laureate Amartya Sen on Monday fainted while having dinner at the BRAC-Inn Center in Dhaka.

However, he gained consciousness after some time and his condition was said to be stable, Center for Policy Dialogue Executive Director Debapriya Bhattacharya told UNI.

''He did not want to see doctor, he is taking rest, he is alright, there is nothing to be panicked,'' Bhattacharya said. Sen will attend his scheduled programme at the BRAC-Inn-Center on Tuesday, he said.

Earlier in the day, Sen was in Delhi for a programme on fundamental rights for children. At the function, he defended the West Bengal government in its move to acquire agricultural land in Singur for the Tata Motors project.

While he said the displacement was a big issue, West Bengal needed to concentrate on industrialisation as well.
