Mumbai: Mukesh Ambani's plan to build a dream house on prime property in Mumbai - which earlier belonged to the Wakf Board - has given politicians an issue to take potshots at each other in Maharashtra Assembly.
After a major uproar, Opposition parties asked the government for an explanation on the issue.
"The way land was transferred is highly objectionable " said Leader of Maharashtra Opposition Nitin Gadkari.
Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said he would speak to the media on the issue only after a reply in the House.
Central Congress leaders who happened to be in Mumbai also avoided commenting on the matter.
"They are talking about Wakf out here. and in the Assembly too. All I can say is that we will look at the issue after Presidential election,” says Congress General Secretary Margret Alva.
After Wakf board withdrew its claim on Ambani’s prime property, a bitter battle has ensued between state Wakf minister Anis Ahmed and the Board.
Sources say the Board has the discreet support of Deshmukh.
State government has promised a detailed reply on the matter in the Assembly on Wednesday, but the issue has already exposed serious differences between Deshmukh and Ahmed.
