New Delhi: Indian ambassador to the US Ronen Sen has decided to step down. The Indian foreign office in the US has confirmed that Sen has declined an extension of his tenure, which ends on March 31.
Sen was reportedly in New Delhi a week ago to meet prime minister Manmohan Singh. Sen was India’s pointsperson in the US when negotiations on the nuclear deal were going on.
Sen's quitting is a second blow to the nuclear deal though he told CNN-IBN that the deal does not depend on any individual.
Sen has been in the thick of controversy since he made the 'headless chicken' comment after the Left opposed the deal to come through last September. He was told to appear before a privileges committee of the house and apologise.
