Families of AMRI victims form forum for justice

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Families of victims who lost their lives in the tragic AMRI hospital fire incident in Kolkata have decided to form an association. 22 families have come together to form the Human Health Rights Forum and they will move to High Court to demand justice for the victims.

The West Bengal government on Tuesday released its first batch of compensation, with 29 families being distributed cheques.

The association is planning to approach a consumer forum to figure out the exact quantum of compensation they are being entitled to.

The families also plan to take up the case with the human rights commission and campaign to ensure that hospitals like AMRI don't flout norms openly again.

A victim's family member said, "The forum is specifically for the purpose that we have understood that the fight cannot be fought all alone, individual fight is difficult because they are big business men and after sometime people tend to forget."

"We don't that agree AMRI has declared a compensation. We want to go to the consumer court forum let them decide what is our loss," he added.
