Aligarh: Aligarh is facing an exodus after the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) administration decided to shut down the campus following a third murder in the last five months.
The scene outside the Aligarh railway station following the indefinite closure of the university was chaotic on Monday
Syed Ishrat Ali is one of the university students who has had to leave his hostel on short notice and he pointed out the obvious difficulties.
"There was no rail reservation as there was a lot of crowd,” said Ishrat Ali.
Chemical Engineering student Nadir Rishi however has bigger problems. It is placement time at the Zakir Hussain evening college in AMU. But instead of having a good job in the next 20 days, Nadir is forced to vacate the campus even with placement formalities incomplete
"The future of 200 students is at stake. Companies wont come now," said Nadir.
Three murders on campus in five months, the burning of the Vice Chancellor's house and an indefinite shutdown isn’t exactly the kind of publicity any educational institute would like to attract. But the University administration insists that they were left with little choice.
"The executive council met and decided to close the university. We did not have an option,” said PRO, AMU, Rahat Abrar.
