Goa: Day Five of IFFI saw the cast of Punjabi film, Waris Shah - Ishq Da Waris, pay homage to the young director of the film Manoj Punj, who passed away on October 22 at the age of 36.
Punj had directed three Punjabi films, including Des Ho Ya Pardes and Hindi film Zingdagi Khoobsurat Hai starring Tabu.
"This is the first time we are attending the screening of the film without the director," actress Divya Dutta said.
Singer and actor Gurdaas Mann lamented that his songs for the film have acquired a new meaning now.
"I wrote the song during our farewell in MA final. The song means 'time has come to move on' but it seems I wrote the song for Manoj," Mann said.
Starring Juhi Chawla, Gurdaas Mann, Divya Dutta and Shushant Seth, Waris Shah - Ishq Da Waris, reflects the life of sufi poet Waris Shah. The film covers the period when he wrote the classic Heer.
The film will also be competing as an independent entry to the Oscars. The film was officially entered by India Waves TV (San Francisco) on behalf of the US distributor of the film, Golden Palms Entertainment Inc.
