Click to play videoNew Delhi: US-based designer Anand Jon's sister Sanjana Jon met up with leading lawyer Majid Memon in Mumbai on Wednesday. Anand's family has been trying to secure a bail for the designer who has been placed in solitary confinement at a Los Angeles County Jail since March 2007. Jon is facing several charges of rape and assault.
Memon who will now be taking up the legal battle for Jon's release said that he would appeal to the Indian Government to intervene in this case.
He said that he would also consider approaching international human rights organisations if a case of racial discrimination could be proved.
For now however, Jon's family is hoping to get the designer out on bail at the earliest.
Jon, who is a well-known designer, and known to have worked with Paris and Nicky Hilton, Mary J Blige and other such celebrities, has allegedly been targeting women who came looking for work opportunities to New York.
Thirty-three-year-old Jon was arrested in March 2007 in Beverly Hills on rape and battery charges. Later as more charges piled up against the designer, he pleaded not guilty to more than 40 felony and misdemeanor counts including rape, sexual battery and committing a lewd act on a child.
Attributing the charges against her son to professional rivalry Anand's mother Sashi Abraham feels the Beverly Hills Court and the downtown court in Los Angeles have denied him a fair trial.
