New York: Celebrity fashion designer Anand, who is currently in jail in Los Angeles, on charges of sexual assault, is not only having trouble with the law but also with his lawyers.
Jon's family has had to fire his last two lawyers amidst accusations that the process of posting bail to have him released from prison was botched.
Jon's sister Sanjana Jon and his mother are now lobbying with the Indian-American community in Los Angeles to highlight this issue, which they allege, is part of the "victimisation" of the designer even as they look for a new attorney to put his case forward.
“Being first generation here, it’s very difficult to stand up and be heard. You realise that you are a typical non-entity in Beverly Hills, you don’t have your community standing behind you,” says Sanjana Jon, adding, “It definitely feels that it’s racial. Nobody was listening to us. Nobody seemed to care.”
Indian-born Jon, who has dressed starlets such as Paris Hilton, is accused of meeting women on the Internet and assaulting them when they visited about modelling opportunities between 2002 and 2007.
The designer who was first arrested by the Beverly Hills Police on March 6, faces 33 felonies and misdemeanors charges, ranging from rape and sexual battery to committing a lewd act on a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor by giving her liquor.
