Andhra MP resigns over Jagan leadership

Hyderabad: A cabinet minister of the K Rosaiah government in Andhra Pradesh has submitted her resignation to governor N D Tiwari demanding that the former chief minister, YSR Reddy’s son Jagan be made the chief minister.

Minister for women's welfare K Surekha is the first minister to resign in the state over the leadership issue.

Konda Surekha said, “I am trying to tell the high command what the people of Andhra want through my resignation.”

It remains to be remains to be seen if Rosaiah will continue to enjoy Delhi's support.

The incident comes days after Jagan Mohan met party President Sonia Gandhi and asked his loyalists to work for Congress and not any individual although he did not give up on chief ministerial aspirations just yet.

On October 23, Jagan had said, “If one is given an opportunity to fulfill is father's dreams and plans for the poor, then who wouldnt want to do it.”

Though voices from the pro-Jagan camp had toned down recently after Cong high command warned against demonstrations, Konda Surekha's resignation has blown the lid off the in-party politics, uncovering the simmering tensions yet again.

Will Jagan loyalists follow suit to build pressure for a quick Legislative Party meet or will K Rosaiah continue to enjoy Delhi's support, that's the question from the state to Sonia Gandhi.
