Anjali disqualify women's 10m Air Rifle Final

Anjali Bhagwat, one of India’s medal hopes had a disappointing performance on Saturday and has failed to even qualify for the finals of the Women's 10m Air Rifle.

CNN-IBN's Digvijay Singh Deo caught up with her to talk about the event.

Digvijay Singh Deo: Disappointed, no hundred score there?

Anjali Bhagwat: Yes, a little disappointed, but I am quite happy with the way I shot today. I could concentrate, I could focus on my technique very well. Yesterday I was thinking about how to switch from cycles to match and how much tension I will be having but then I could do that easily. I comfortably switched over to the match button. My first shot was also good and I could keep up the rhythm till 20 shots, but today I had lot of body movements.

It took time to stabilize my body, take aim and squeeze the trigger. For 20 shots I could do it but then I realised there was some time pressure as there was only 20 minutes for 20 shots.

Digvijay Singh Deo: You will think about this for sometime but you have to switch focus and focus on your main event?.

Anjali Bhagwat: Definitely, 3 position (50m rifle 3 positions ) is my main event now. I have practiced well and technical side is quite fine. As we have good quality of ammunition and good chosen barrels. This is an outdoor event and there are other factors that matter.

The weather condition is very hot. There is lot of humidity. After each shot you have to wipe off your sweat and take the cheek pressure again which is very important to have the same recoil. It is also a windy range. The wind is heavy. The wind is drifting the shots away from the centre. So giving clicks, keeping attention on the wind flag, every everything depends on that.
