New Delhi: Five months after the audacious terror attack on Mumbai, the drama still continues.

The trial of Ajmal Kasab, the stopped even before it started. His senior lawyer, Anjali Waghmare was removed from the case for not informing the court earlier that she was a prosecutor in the Cama Hospital shootout case, a clear clash of interest.

Bar council member, advocate Abbas Kazmi said, “Waghmare had taken the case of a victim in the Cama Hospital case and that victim is a witness in this case.”

Meanwhile, Anjali Waghmare said, “I have not committed any professional misconduct. I have not signed in any case. I have not filed any case in the high court.”

While all this drama was going on outside the Arthur Road jail, inside Kasab was relaxed. He seemed unaffected by what was going on in the court.

He kept snatching glances through the barricade where he was made to sit. Dressed in the same round neck black T shirt and navy blue tracks, Kasab looked like he had put on weight. He kept smiling through the hearing and was seen talking to his co-accused. But at the end, all Kasab wanted was a Pakistani lawyer.

The court assured him that the request will be sent to Pakistan but also said that the wait couldn't be indefinite – it would go ahead and hire another lawyer to defend him.

Special Public Prosecutor in 26/11 terror attack case Ujjwal Nikam said, “Pakistan is not responding to his plea. However, he has asked for another request. We will inform the Pakistani government about his request.”

Advocate K P Pawar continues to be Kasab's lawyer but he will still need a a senior lawyer. The decision is likely to be taken by Friday.
