More light on Anne Frank's life

Amsterdam: The book The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank has been inspiring school children around the world for decades.

And now a new book The Life Of Anne Frank brings more details of the young Jewish girl who wrote while hiding from the Nazis in World War II in Netherlands to light.

‘I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to confide in anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support,’- these lines were written by Anne in her new diary, which was a gift to her on her 13th birthday. And now her words are as strong as ever.

The new book however, tells the story of Anne’s life in words and pictures, even through those pictures that have never been published before.

The publishers hope to keep the legacy of Anne Frank alive for a new generation of readers through this book.

“It is like a window on the holocaust if you read Anne Frank when you're 10 or 12-years-old. For many children it's really the first time they actually read something about the Second World War,” says Anne Frank House, Amsterdam, Patricia Bosboom.

Anne and her family just like many Jews spent hiding in a house here. There is a room for instance, which has no suspicious air about it. It just has an old bookshelf with folders.

However, pushing the shelf aside will lead to Anne’s secret hiding place. Anne and her family had spent almost two years in the hiding place. They had hardly moved around in fear of being discovered.

‘In spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart. I simply can't build up my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery, and death,’ were the words the words Anne had written in her diary. Later she and her family were captured by the Nazis and sent to the death camp.

Anne died of typhoid in March 1945, just two months before the end of the war. However, her words remain. And the publishers of the book say that today those words are more important than ever.
