New Delhi:,/b> An engineering student has been detained for allegedly raping an Australian tourist in Karnataka's Gokarna.
The incident is reported to have taken place on Saturday night.
22-year-old Sharan Gowda, allegedly forced his way into a beachside shack rented by the 28-year-old Australian woman and raped her.
The victim says she opened the door when the accused knocked, thinking it was her husband.
The couple from Queensland was holidaying at the Gokarna beach.
Eyewitnesses have corroborated the victim's statement.
The victim has reportedly left Karnataka after the incident.
