Gujarat: Another police officer takes on Modi govt

CNN-IBN

Ahmedabad: After Sanjiv Bhatt and Rahul Sharma, the Narendra Modi government in Gujarat appears to have targeted another senior police officer DIG Rajneesh Rai. Rai told the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) that his annual confidential report has been downgraded by the government.

Rai in his report had brought out facts that prove that former Gujarat minister Amit Shah was influencing the investigations in the fake encounter cases.

Rai had further accused another former top Gujarat police official PC Pande of trying to suppress facts in the investigations.

Rai was the officer who made the first key arrests in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. He arrested top police personnel including DG Vanzara. The Gujarat government had transferred him from the CID crime branch to crime records bureau.
