New Delhi: Healthy food holds the key to having healthy skin and one of the ingredients of some skin-healthy food stuffs is anti-oxidants.

Pollution, sunlight, temperature fluctuation have always spelt bad news for the health of our skin. Our hectic daily lives full of activity and strife and stress, be it at office or home – skin aging has begun afflicting younger people.

Dermatologist Dr Shehla Agarwal says, “Stress is the reason why the free radicals in our body increases and these free radicals are the one which cause premature death of our cells. The cells are dying earlier and the pigmentation problem is there. So what you get is dry skin wrinkles pigmentation and the loss of glow, the life from the skin.”

To counter free radicals requires use of anti-oxidants, either in our diet or products we use. Foodstuffs like fish, green tea, carrots, citrus fruits which are rich in Vitamin C, B complexes, A and E and minerals like zinc and selenium can help you up your anti-oxidant quotient.

“Anti-oxidants are the compounds which are quenching the free radicals. So they go and attach themselves to the free radicals. The free radicals are not able to go and attach to the skin cells and thus the aging process stop then and there,” she added.

While fancy lotions, creams and sunscreens can help keep your skin beautiful and smooth but good skin is an inside job.

Use of supplements of Vitamins and minerals can help you keep your skin young and healthy.
