Anti-terror weapon: Guns that shoot around corners

Kavitta Sharma, CNN-IBN

Will increasingly sophisticated anti-terror technology be the key to keeping us safe in a post-9/11 era? Outsmarting Terror highlights the crucial new high-tech tactics intended to protect innocent citizens from potential tragedies. CNN-IBN and National Geographic take a close look at buildings that can actually brace for impact and investigate the development of smart guns that can shoot around corners.

New Delhi: Can buildings be terror proof ? The LINE-X Polymer is a great way to strengthen buildings. The polymer sprays onto a wall just like paint, but it quickly hardens into a protective, elastic layer that can turn a concrete block into a bouncing brick.

It bolsters the mortar among the blocks. The polymer already covers many walls at the Pentagon.

Says security analyst, Brigadier Rahul Bhonsle, "We should be able to adopt this technology to the most critical buildings, which we think are liable for a terrorist attack — such as Parliament, Rashtrapati Bhawan and the South and North Blocks."

The war on terror ultimately requires ultra modern weaponry, including new generation weapons carried by special force units that allows them to see the field more clearly than ever before.

Even with body armor, a soldier in enemy territory has a critical vulnerability. Every time he peers around a corner; he exposes himself to hostile fire. A new combat gun does the dangerous part for them — without exposing his position. It's called the Corner-shot.

Says retired Lieutenant Colonel, Amos Golan, "For a few years I was thinking, what to do? Then I developed this weapon that will save the life of my soldiers."

Military units and law enforcement agencies around the world are already taking the Corner-shot on combat missions. Soldiers can see through the attached camera monitor, allowing both safety and deadly accuracy.

New technologies have bolstered our defenses and given us new ways to attack terror head-on. But the terrorists are always thinking and planning one step ahead. Technology perhaps offers us the best chance to outsmart terror.
