KOCHI: Activists of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti took out protest demonstrations in various parts of the city on Monday holding placards and distributing pamphlets asking the youth to stop “wasting their time celebrating the ‘immoral’ Valentine’s Day.”

“Bharat is a country that has a rich cultural and moral heritage. By blindly following Westerners, our culture is being wiped out slowly,” the Samiti said in a press release.“Today, when the country is being afflicted by terrorism and corruption, who should wage a war against such evils and protect the country- 74-year-old Anna Hazare or the youths of the nation?,” the statement said. As part of the anti-Valentine’s Day campaign, the activists visited many schools and colleges in the city to create awareness among youngsters regarding the ‘moral and cultural degradation being caused due to the celebration of Valentine’s Day.’
