Anurag Kashyap ready with Devdas' new version

New Delhi: After director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's star-studded opulent take on Sharat Chandra's novel Devdas, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap now decodes the story of lost love in a modern-gritty version titled Dev D featuring Abhay Deol as the contemporary lovelorn Devdas or shall we say Dev D.

“It is a modern day Devdas. It is about whether he would have waited for Paro for so long or gone for Chandramukhi,” says filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.

But what has been creating a lot of buzz, thanks to the promos of the film is Dev D's Chandramukhi played by Kalki Koechlin who will be talking on a chat line called 'Lustline' for 15 days - all in a bid to promote the film.

“Yes, she plays Chandramukhi. She is a chat girl in the movie,” says Anurag Kashyap.

And if people think that old school Shyam Benegal wouldn't approve of classics such as Devdas getting a modern day twist, they might have to think again.

“Yes, every generation can have its interpretation of its movies,” says filmmaker Shyam Benegal.

So, all movie buffs should get ready for this new avatar of the popular Bengali novel - minus the alcohol, courtesans and lyrical love story.
