Hyderabad: As many as 242 candidates are in the fray for 18 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh where by-elections will be held on June 12.
For the Nellore Lok Sabha seat, 13 candidates stayed in contest as the last date for withdrawal of nominations ended on Monday, according to state Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal.
Briefing newspersons in the evening, the CEO said 25 candidates, all of whom filed their nominations for Assembly seats, withdrew from the race in the last two days.

Narasannapet and Polavaram (ST) segments have the lowest number of candidates (six each).
Prominent among the contestants for the Nellore Lok Sabha seat are former Union Minister T Subbarami Reddy, on behalf of the ruling Congress, and Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy of the YSR Congress.
