AP CM unveils SEZ for aerospace engineering

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh might have lost the Nano race to Gujarat but that's definitely not keeping Chief Minister YS Rajashekhar Reddy from moving on.

Reddy has unveiled an SEZ for aerospace and precision engineering in Adibatla near Hyderabad.

While the Nano will not roll out of the state, interestingly it is the Tatas who have shown interest in the project.

Andhra Pradesh Industries Minister Geetha Reddy says, “You win some, you lose some. Mr Ratan Tata himself wrote to us expressing interest in Hyderabad's aerospace SEZ."

Group company Tata Advance Systems would invest 500 crore rupees in setting up a aerospace hub that will manufacture radar and satellite systems.

Geetha Reddy says, “We have decided to allot 50 acres to the Tatas near the Shamshabad Airport.”

It is being said the Tatas had pretty much decided on Gujarat even before they visited the state.

Since the company's aerospace interests were still in pipeline, they chose to amuse the government by visiting potential sites.

As for the AP government, this SEZ could not have been better timed.

The Reddy government is not taking any chances this time especially so soon after the Nano embarrassment.
