Palakonda: A 14-year-old girl Kanakala Sirisha, inmate of hostel run by Navodaya Model School at Palakonda died while another student B Umamaheswari is undergoing treatment at the Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences at Srikakulam. The two girls are class 9 students of the private school. According to district officials the hostel is being run illegally.
On Monday night at about 7.30 p.m. the girls complained of severe pain in the abdomen to the hostel warden, who in turn admitted the two girls to government hospital at Palakonda. Sirisha died at about 10 p.m. while undergoing treatment. Umamaheswari was shifted to KIMS in Srikakulam in a serious condition. Sirisha belongs to Talada village in the district while Vani hails from Labhara, a tribal village.
Not informing the police about the death of Sirisha, the school management reportedly handed over the body to her parents. On learning about the news, DSP of Palakonda Dayanand Santho and RDO P Dayanidhi rushed to the hospital and enquired about the incident. The condition of Umamaheswari is stable, the DSP said.

The two girls are class 9 students of a private school. Officials said the hostel is being run illegally.
A case has been registered and investigation is on. District educational officer S Aruna Kumari, who visited the hospital, told Express that the education department did not give any permission to the school to run the hostel.
