Guntur: Close on the heels of desecration of the statues of Dalit icon Babasaheb Ambedkar, figures of two Congress leaders were found on Saturday to be defiled in Tenali town in the district, police said. Statues of Congress leaders NG Ranga and Vangaveeti Ranga were found damaged, they said.

In a bid to prevent any untoward incident, police reinstalled the image of Vangaveeti Ranga even as people gathered near the spot of the incident and raised slogans in protest.

Vangaveeti Ranga's son Radhakrishna, who is former MLA from Vjjayawada rushed to Tenali and appealed for observing restraint.
