Appoint panel to resolve Singur standoff:Left

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: As the Singur standoff continues, the Left Front has appealed to the West Bengal government to ask the Governor to appoint a mediator to resolve the land row.

Meanwhile, the TATA Motors Nano plant will remain closed for the fifth consective day as the management told its workers not to report for work on Tuesday - this despite an apparent climbdown by Trinamool Congress leader, Mamata Banerjee on Monday evening.

The Trinamool chief said that work at the plant can go on as long as the government restores land to the farmers.

However, TATA Motors is taking no chances, fearing for the safety of its workers.

Early on Tuesday morning, police opened one lane of the Durgapur Expressway to Kolkata on National Highway 2, which had been blocked by the protestors.
