New Delhi: An M Phil student in JNU, Mohammad Junaid spends a lot of time on the Internet reading news, chatting with friends and of course blogging.
But for the last few days he has been a mute witness to the deluge of anti-Muslim rhetoric following the UK terror attacks.
“Earlier I used to respond to all the this on the net but now the amount of such material is so huge that I simply sit back and ask – what’s going on!” says Mohammed.
He feels most of what appears on the Internet is nothing but prejudiced opinion.
Meanwhile, Fahad Mustafa is scheduled to fly to Europe in four weeks for higher studies.
But has the news of racial profiling after the recent spate in terror attacks planted fear at the back of his mind?
“I would not say I fear going there, because I am too excited to go to Europe. But after the UK incidents I do feel the need to be a cautious as it has put some doubt at the back of my mind,” says Fahad.
Perhaps this doubt exists in all Indian Muslims who frequently travel abroad.
Twelve Indian Muslims were detained at the Amsterdam Airport for suspicious behaviour just last August.
And now the coverage of the families of the Glassgow terror suspects has once again brought the ordinary Indian Muslim in the spotlight.
