New Delhi: The Supreme Court ruling on quota has left man smiling - Arjun Singh.
In his fight for reservation, the Human Resource Minister Arjun Singh has often been accused of dividing the society.
But today, crusader of reservation for OBCs in higher institutions, the shrewd politician from Churhat in Madhya Pradesh feels vindicated.
“Vindication happens with time. Sometimes it can be measured, sometimes it takes time,” he said on Thursday.
It's victory for a political journey begun by another Thakur, VP Singh. His name has become synonymous with the Mandal movement which demanded 27 per cent reservation for jobs for backward classes in Central Government.
There were angry protests then. But VP stood firm. He had his share of supporters, just like Arjun has.
At the end of the day, what cannot be denied is that reservation is a powerful political weapon and much has the two Thakurs may be criticized, their political calculations cannot be questioned.
