Mumbai: The terrorists who attacked Mumbai came in two groups and some of them were Pakistanis, senior security officials tell CNN-IBN.
A senior security official has told CNN-IBN that one group came with weapons and explosives arrived through the sea route. The core group arrived by air, and rented a house in Mumbai.
Intelligence agencies are checking the visa details of all Pakistanis who've visited India in the last two months. The revelation that terrorists came by sea has exposed vulnerability of India's coastline.
Intelligence agencies had warned that at least 500 Lashkar-e-Taeba agents were being given marine training in terrorist. The Maharashtra Police, too, had submitted a report in October to the centre, mentioning increased activity along the Maharashtra and Gujarat coast.
Police sources have told CNN IBN that many of the terrorists had fake Indian fishermen licences, which they used to enter the city through the sea route on more than one occasion.
Two months earlier, the group had surveyed all the targets thoroughly. From the Oberoi Hotel, the National Security Guards have recovered seven fully loaded magazines, Chinese hand grenades, 400 live rounds, seven credit cards issued from an address in Mauritius, bags with stocks of dry fruits, and cash in dollars.
A mobile phone with a SIM card from Pakistan has also been found. One of the terrorists has been arrested. His interrogation could give more clues to investigators.
The Coast Guard has handed over two dinghies used by the terrorists to enter Mumbai to the police. Both are registered in the name of a Porbander resident. The police are also investigating another shipping trawler, the Kuber. The captain and four others on board the Kuber had been killed and their bodies thrown into the water.
All recoveries made by the NSG commandos are now being analysed by a joint task force of the Maharashtra Police, the Intelligence Bureau and RAW.
