Army Chief Deepak Kumar going deaf

New Delhi: Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor is suffering from a serious hearing loss in his left ear and is unable to differentiate spoken words, a document accessed by CNN-IBN shows

This medical document shows that Kapoor suffers from a ‘sensorineural hearing loss’--a condition he developed after being exposed to loud gunfire during weapon trials organised by the US military last year.

Kapoor is now in Medical Category H 2, which is lower than what a fit Army officer should have.

Officers have to be medically fit to hold crucial posts, but Kapoor has developed loss of hearing at the fag end of his 42 years of service.

When he retires in March this year, he will go down as a rare Army Chief whose retired with a lower medical category rating.
