Sibsagar: In another shocking incident in Assam, a college girl was allegedly molested by an Army jawan in Shibsagar district, even as police are still struggling to nab the seven out of 12 men accused of groping and beating up a teenager in Guwahati.
The incident took place when a Lance Naik and his team were patrolling near a forest in Dolopa. The victim was collecting firewood when the alleged incident occurred.
The girl raised alarm and alert locals rushed to save her. They beat up the jawan in question before handing him over to police.
The jawan has now been placed under arrest and will be produced in court on Sunday.
The police said an attempt to rape case has been filed against the jawan.
Sibsagar Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhilesh Kumar Singh said, "An Army jawan tried to molest a 23-year-old student in a village when she was out to collect firewood. A case was registered and the jawan has been arrested and will be produced in court. The girl is stable and had filed a complaint of attempt to rape."
However, the SP didn't disclose the identity of the jawan.
