Army sued over youth killed in Sopore firing

Sopore: Villagers in Sopore are resorting to violence to demand justice for the youth allegedly killed by the army.

A 20-year-old Mohammed Ameen and another youth were allegedly shot by army personnel.

A distraught family has failed to come to terms with the tragedy.

Brother of victim Mohammed Sultan said, "Three of the youth were walking on the roadside when an army jeep came and without any provocation fired at them."

Villagers are seething in anger even as they demand the shifting of the army camp in Sopore village.

An MLA escaped angry mob outside Ameen's house when he went to pay condolence to his family.

villager Ramez said, "Our youth are mercilessly murdered. We want to ask the Indian government is this the peace they have established here? We are cornered and then we are forced to take to arms."

Meanwhile police have registered a murder case against the army after Chief Minister ordered a magisterial inquiry.

The army has started a high level court of inquiry.

DIG North Zone, G A Meer said, "An FIR has been lodged against the army personnel."

This is a fourth such case since Amar Abdullah came into office. The people are now demanding justice.
